Infertility By the Numbers: Hope for Couples Who Want to Start a Family

If you’re experiencing infertility, you are not alone.

Did you know that 1 in 8 couples in the United States has struggled with infertility? We understand that it can be a difficult and emotional experience for couples who want to start or grow their family.

But there is hope … and the statistics back it up. In fact, they get more promising all the time.

Fertility clinics just like Columbia Fertility Associates help families bring hope to life every single day. It’s what we do. And nothing makes us happier than seeing our patients watching as their dreams come true.

If you want further encouragement, here are some statistics that may help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

90% of infertility cases can be overcome through science.

Fertility clinics offer a variety of treatments to help couples conceive, including intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and gestational surrogacy.

IUI is a procedure in which sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation. IUI is often used to treat infertility caused by male factor infertility, cervical factor infertility, and unexplained infertility.

In IVF procedures, eggs are fertilized with sperm outside the body. The fertilized eggs are then cultured in a laboratory and transferred to the uterus. IVF is often used to treat infertility caused by female factor infertility, male factor infertility, and unexplained infertility.

If neither of those options are right for you, then gestational surrogacy could be the answer. In this case, a woman carries a pregnancy for another couple. Gestational surrogacy is often used for couples who have a medical condition that prevents them from carrying a pregnancy to term.

35% of infertility in women is due to damaged fallopian tubes.

Fertility clinics can help women with damaged fallopian tubes conceive through IVF. During IVF, the eggs are collected directly from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm outside the body. The fertilized eggs are then cultured in a laboratory and transferred to the uterus.

25% of infertility in women is linked to ovulation.

Fertility clinics can help women with ovulation problems conceive through ovulation induction medications and IUI. Ovulation induction medications help to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs. IUI is a procedure in which sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation.

60% of women who have miscarriages will be able to have a healthy pregnancy.

We know that miscarriage can be a traumatic experience and leaves many couples wondering if they will ever have a successful pregnancy. Fortunately, fertility clinics can help women with a history of miscarriage have a healthy pregnancy through assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A).

ART can help women with a history of miscarriage conceive and maintain a pregnancy. PGT-A is a genetic test that can be used to identify embryos with chromosomal abnormalities.

Live births from fertility treatment have increased by over 50% in the U.S. since 2002.

This statistic shows tells two great stories. First, it tells us that over the years fertility treatments are becoming more and more successful. For many couples, the odds of conceiving through one of the many fertility treatments available is increasing all the time.

Second, it shows that more couples are choosing to seek fertility treatment when they are struggling to conceive. This is so important because it tells us that awareness is growing about the successes of fertility treatments and also that the stigma of seeking fertility treatments is disappearing.

Fertility struggles can happen to anyone. Just like any medical condition, when you seek care, you have a much better chance of overcoming the condition.

At Columbia Fertility Associates, we’re honored each time a patient walks through our door. And we aren’t afraid to take the most difficult cases.

We’re here to help you bring your hope to life!
